Construction Hydraulic Cylinders Industry knowledge

Jiangsu Hengcai Hydraulic Mechanical Co., Ltd. has designed and manufactured hydraulic cylinders from Jianhu County, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province since 1988. As a Construction Hydraulic Cylinders manufacturer, we build four dedicated construction series — aerial working equipment, pump truck, crane and excavator cylinders — on the same machining, welding, heat treatment and test base used for our sanitation, marine, coal mine, logistics and general-purpose lines.

Annual output exceeds 80,000 cylinders. The Jianhu plant covers more than 130,000 m² with a workforce of over 200, and we hold ISO9001, ISO14001 and CE certificates. Our cylinders are supplied to more than 40 large and medium-sized main machine factories and travel with exported equipment to the United States, Japan, Russia and other markets.

Construction Hydraulic Cylinders in Our Range

Each series is configured to a machine and a duty cycle rather than to a catalogue placeholder. Bore, rod, stroke, mounting and sealing are matched to the host equipment, and the same component families are shared across series so field replacement stays simple.

Series Typical host equipment Cylinder duty in the machine
Aerial working equipment Scissor lifts, straight-arm and articulated boom platforms, aerial work vehicles, 9–100 m class Platform lift and levelling, boom extension; modular structure with high parts commonality for fast service
Pump truck Concrete pump trucks with 23–75 m booms, 30–100 m³/h trailer pumps, 100–120 m³/h vehicle-mounted pumps Boom folding and pressure holding, outrigger deployment, high-speed main pumping stroke
Crane Truck, rough-terrain and all-terrain cranes from 1 t to 4000 t Boom telescoping and luffing, outrigger extension; support cylinders built for large side loads
Excavator Crawler and wheeled excavators, attachments and earthmoving carriers Boom, arm and bucket motion under continuous impact and side loading
Adjacent ranges Sanitation equipment, marine machinery, coal mine supports and drilling rigs, forklifts, tailboards, presses, agricultural machinery Long-stroke, high-load duty in corrosive, confined or continuously cycling environments

Application Fit by Machine Type

Excavators and earthmoving equipment

Boom, arm and bucket cylinders absorb shock, side load and dirt ingress for the whole machine life. We quench the rod outer surface at medium frequency and apply nickel-chromium composite plating for wear, impact and corrosion resistance, and the sealing system is set up for the high pressure, high impact and fast cycling these circuits run at. Special-material sleeves at both cylinder ends prevent pin shaft sintering and extend the maintenance interval. Read the technical detail on our Excavator Hydraulic Cylinder.

Cranes and lifting equipment

Lifting duty demands held pressure, frequent operation and tolerance of vibration. Limit conditions put a large side load on the support cylinder, so rod surface hardness and wear resistance drive the design. Standardized cylinder design with welding and anti-loosening technology keeps long telescopic sections stable, while anti-leakage sealing protects holding pressure during prolonged load suspension. Our Crane Hydraulic Cylinder series covers 1–4000 t lifting classes.

Concrete pump trucks

Boom and outrigger cylinders work against vibration, lateral loading and continuous pressure holding, while the master pumping cylinder runs fast with heavy impact and its front end is immersed in water. Waterproof design on the pumping cylinder prevents hydraulic oil emulsification, and long-span guiding with special guide supports controls deflection in over-long boom cylinders. See the Pump Truck Hydraulic Cylinder page for the anti-leakage and interlocking details.

Aerial work platforms

Scissor, straight-arm and articulated platforms need smooth deceleration at stroke ends and predictable holding when the basket is loaded. Buffer simulation and load sensing let us verify the cushioning behaviour in the design stage, and lightweight high-strength alloy construction raises machine endurance. Serial bore and stroke combinations adapt the same platform architecture to different working heights.

Critical Specifications and Working Envelope

These envelopes describe our standard construction series. Intermediate sizes, higher pressures and non-standard strokes are quoted against the machine drawing, and we confirm thrust, buckling length and pin interface before releasing a design.

Materials, Sealing and Surface Treatment

  • Rods run through medium frequency quenching and nickel-chromium composite plating; piston rod material is selected for fatigue resistance in long-stroke duty.
  • Sealing systems are configured for the specific pressure, impact and cycling profile of the host machine, using multi-seal structures with high-strength seal materials in our anti-leakage design.
  • Barrel-to-end welding is carried out in-house, including large ring welding technology for heavy-section cylinders.
  • Anti-corrosion coating is applied on a 315 m automatic electrostatic coating line or on the large-part manual line, with coating thickness, hardness, adhesion and corrosion resistance verified.
  • Barrel honing and deep-hole machining are held to the geometric tolerance band set at design review, with dimensional accuracy checked in the material laboratory.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Our production system covers 22 manufacturing processes and 109 processing capabilities for the cylinder route, with a self-made parts rate of 70%. Core processes — welding, heat treatment, electroplating and spraying — and the important parts stay inside our own shop, which is where we control stability of the finished cylinder.

  • Heat treatment by overall tempering or fully automatic surface induction heating, followed by hardness testing, tensile testing and automatic metallographic analysis.
  • Durability verification on the 2P-2F durability test bench and the reciprocating and buffer comprehensive performance test bench.
  • Physical, chemical and metallographic laboratories check material properties, chemical composition and dimensional accuracy.
  • In-process records follow the job through the ERP-linked BOM and PLM (TeamCenter) system, so the released design, inspection plan and serial data stay traceable.

Configuration and Line Integration

We configure the cylinder around the machine interface rather than around a fixed model number. The points below are settled with your engineering team before production drawings are released.

  • Bore, rod, stroke, cushioning length and mounting geometry, including pin diameter and sleeve arrangement at both ends.
  • End-of-stroke buffering matched to travel speed and moving mass, verified by simulation where the duty cycle is demanding.
  • Multi-stage double-acting telescopic thrust where boom reach requires staged extension.
  • Sensor and control-system integration for working-condition monitoring and early fault warning, with signal type, mounting position and connection interface agreed against the machine control architecture.
  • Port position, port thread, rod-end thread and any manifold interface, plus the hydraulic oil cleanliness and filtration requirement for the circuit.
  • Paint specification, colour and marking, together with nameplate data and traceability requirements.

Documentation, Delivery Scope and Serviceability

Each order is released with the inspection plan drawn up at the design stage; our R&D route runs from requirement confirmation through scheme design and review, customer confirmation, product and process design, ERP BOM preparation, quality preparation, trial manufacture, testing and order conversion. Delivery scope, packaging and marking are agreed per order, including the documentation needed for incoming inspection and installation records.

After-sales support covers installation, commissioning and operator training, with technical response when a cylinder behaves unexpectedly in service. Every cylinder carries a one-year warranty against material or workmanship defects under normal use; reported quality issues receive a response within 24 hours and a diagnosis or action plan within 3–5 days. We keep long-term supply of cylinder accessories — metal parts, pipe joints, sealing rings and rubber components — so a machine is not taken out of service waiting for a seal kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which construction machines do your cylinders fit?

Our construction range covers excavator boom, arm and bucket cylinders, crane telescoping, luffing and support cylinders for 1–4000 t classes, concrete pump truck boom, outrigger and pumping cylinders, and aerial working equipment cylinders for scissor, straight-arm and articulated platforms in the 9–100 m class. Sanitation, marine, coal mine, logistics and general-purpose cylinder lines run on the same production base.

Can you manufacture from our drawings or from a sample?

Yes. Customized cylinders are our main business; we develop and produce according to customer drawings or samples, and we also hold standard hydraulic cylinder products. The development route runs from requirement determination and scheme design review through customer confirmation, product and process design, BOM preparation and trial manufacture before series production.

How is cylinder performance verified before shipment?

Durability and cushioning behaviour are checked on our 2P-2F durability test bench and the reciprocating and buffer comprehensive performance test bench. Material and process quality is verified by hardness, tensile and automatic metallographic testing after heat treatment, and by coating thickness, hardness, adhesion and corrosion resistance testing after spraying.

What warranty and spare parts support applies?

Cylinders are warranted for one year against defects in material or workmanship under normal use. During that period, a confirmed quality problem is resolved by replacement or by an agreed discount on the next order. We supply cylinder accessories — metal parts, pipe joints, sealing rings and rubber parts — on a long-term basis.

Do you integrate sensors and control functions into the cylinder?

Our design work includes sensor and control-system integration so a cylinder can report working condition and support early fault warning for the machine. Signal type, sensor position, cable routing and connection interface are confirmed against the machine control architecture at design review.

What do you need from us to prepare a configuration and quotation?

Send the host machine type and cylinder position, a drawing, model or sample, the required bore, rod, stroke and mounting dimensions, system pressure and cycle data, load figures, temperature and site conditions, plus quantity, schedule and destination. With those inputs we can confirm the design envelope, propose the sealing and surface treatment package and quote against a defined specification.
